residue of the chemical

We used to say, "An apple a day keeps the doctor away." ... but now, those lovely looking apples we eat are full of pesticides. Even the worms do not want to eat them! Furthermore, most of these apples are grown thousands of miles away, picked while they are still green and exposed to ethylene gas so they can ripen as they are being shipped to their destination in a truck. Not only do these fruits still carry a residue of the chemical but because they are picked early, they may have little or no nutritional value by the time they reach your kitchen table.

Our modern food supply has become a mixture of chemicals and additives with the emphasis on appearance and taste as well as shelf life, rather than on the nutritional value. That's why by middle age many people have as much as 20 pounds of undigested, putrefactive food in their colon. No wonder why colon cancer is the number one cancer in the United States.

technical systems

Lifestyle was originally coined by Austrian psychologist Alfred Adler in 1929. The current broader sense of the word dates from 1961.[1]

In sociology, a lifestyle is the way a person lives. A lifestyle is a characteristic bundle of behaviors that makes sense to both others and oneself in a given time and place, including social relations, consumption, entertainment, and dress. The behaviors and practices within lifestyles are a mixture of habits, conventional ways of doing things, and reasoned actions. A lifestyle typically also reflects an individual's attitudes, values or worldview. Therefore, a lifestyle is a means of forging a sense of self and to create cultural symbols that resonate with personal identity. Not all aspects of a lifestyle are entirely voluntaristic. Surrounding social and technical systems can constrain the lifestyle choices available to the individual and the symbols she/he is able to project to others and the self.[2]

The lines between personal identity and the everyday doings that signal a particular lifestyle become blurred in modern society.[3] For example, "green lifestyle" means holding beliefs and engaging in activities that consume fewer resources and produce less harmful waste (i.e. a smaller carbon footprint), and deriving a sense of self from holding these beliefs and engaging in these activities. Some commentators argue that, in modernity, the cornerstone of lifestyle construction is consumption behavior, which offers the possibility to create and further individualize the self with different products or services that signal different ways of life.

Kim hinted

Even though it was revealed just yesterday that Kourtney Kardashian is pregnant, her sister Kim is already thrilled about the new addition to the family. "To be an auntie -- I'm very excited!" Kim told Life & Style at the SVEDKA Vodka Adult Playground 2033 event featuring Brent Bolthouse photography, Greenland: A Beautiful Lie, in Hollywood last night. "It's a very exciting time in all of our lives. We definitely went through a lot of craziness to get to this calm place."

And Kim hinted as to who the father may be by bringing Kourtney's on-again, off-again boyfriend, Scott Disick, to the event. And this morning Kourtney confirmed to the Today show that Scott is indeed the father. As for Kourtney, Kim has nothing but good news to report. "She's doing great. Everyone's just really, really happy and it's an exciting time in all of our lives."

And it looks like it's not just Kourtney who has babies on the brain: "Could you imagine if all of us wanted to have as many kids as my mom has?" Kim asked. "My mom has six kids and if each kid had six kids, how many grandkids is that? Six times six is 36. She'd have 36 grandkids! We're trying to make it happen."

running theatrical

If you haven’t picked up this week’s Style Weekly, do so and flip to the “Night & Day” section. Richmond Rocky Horror Week is the lead to their events calendar. Guess that means you have to go…

It’s the longest-running theatrical release in film history. Watching this bizarre parody of the science-fiction and horror genres is not a passive event (except for maybe virgins). With its overt leniency toward yelling at the screen, throwing props and costumed re-enactments, “Rocky Horror” is the quintessential midnight-movie-going experience.

Read the full article here. The week is chock full of events benefiting AIDSWalk Richmond. For the complete listing go to gayrva.com/rocky.

Racing fans

Vintage Rachel.

Racing fans will soon be able to do more than toast Rachel Alexandra in the winner's circle. The super filly is about to get her own line of wines.

Kendall-Jackson Winery announced Tuesday a limited edition of wines honoring their 3-year-old will be ready for the holiday season.

The winery says fewer than 300 cases of the wines will be produced and each bottle will have Rachel's image. Jess Jackson and wife Barbara Banke are co-owners of the winery. Jackson purchased Rachel Alexandra in May after the filly won the Kentucky Oaks by 20 1/4 lengths.

Rachel Alexandra is clearly traveling in more refined circles these days. She is featured in the recent issue of Vogue, with the layout shot by fashion photographer Steven Klein. The magazine spread grew out of a trip to the Preakness by Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Rachel Alexandra won the Haskell Invitational against colts Sunday, beating Belmont Stakes winner Summer Bird by six lengths for her eighth victory in a row. She also won against the boys in the Preakness Stakes in May.

Kurkova won't say

According to Czech supermodel Karolina Kurkova, pregnancy is the new black.

"You know, it's probably the new thing to be pregnant. It's not to have the Chanel python bag. It's to be pregnant," she says.

Kurkova isn't kidding. The 25-year-old joins fellow Victoria's Secret models Adriana Lima, Gisele Bundchen and Heidi Klum, who are also expecting.

This will be the first child for Kurkova, who plays a runway model-turned-spy in "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra," and her film producer-fiance, Archie Drury.

She jokes that she's already got a "manny" for her baby boy, due in the fall — co-star Dennis Quaid.

As for baby names, Kurkova won't say.

"There are a few names that we like. But I'm keeping them a secret," she says. "I don't want Adriana or Heidi or Gisele stealing my baby's name."

Diet plays a major role in prevention of breast cancer

Each year in the United States, approximately 180,000 women will be told they have breast cancer. While there is ample information in the public about the medical aspects of treatment, by comparison, information on prevention is still lacking. This article will provide some current information on how Chinese women work toward prevention of breast cancer. While this article addresses women, breast cancer does rarely occur in men (less than 2% of the cases each year).
Diet

Diet plays a major role in prevention of breast cancer. Breast cancer rates among Japanese and Chinese women are approximately one-tenth of those of American women. The typical Asian diet is lower in fat and dairy products, and much higher in soy products, green vegetables, and whole grains compared to Western societies. Breast cancer rates have increased for immigrant Japanese women in California who have gradually switched to a more western diet. This also includes descendants. This does suggest that diet factors do play a big role especially while the body is still young and growing. An overweight female also has higher risk. Eating more fish instead of red meat can reduce the intake of saturated fat. Asians also tend to eat fresher foods, which have less preservatives. Farming in Asia tends to use less chemical fertilizers and pesticides due to the initial high cost of chemicals, though this has been changing rapidly as farming has increasingly become "westernized". Organic farming has become more popular of late and does provide a better source of produce.
Stress

Stress can stimulate excessive hormone secretion in the body, which can lead to higher rate of breast cancer. Evaluate your daily life. Busyness does not equal more stress. Worrying excessively can create tension in the body and should be reduced if possible. Look at having a more positive outlook in life. My mother always told me, "When you are angry, 10 million cells in your body die or become toxic; when you are happy, all your cells are happy and functioning."
Alcohol, smoking and coffee

Alcohol and coffee consumption and smoking have been directly linked to higher cancer rates. These habits tend to develop at a young age. It's important to teach our daughters very early on. It's also important to avoid persistent second-hand smoke.
Meditation and energy exercises

Exercises such as Qi Gong, Tai Chi, and Yoga can be a good benefit in reducing stress and tension in our body. Meditation can relax our mind and bring our body to a more balanced state. These exercises are not difficult to learn and can be incorporated into our life style relatively easily. Since the 1970's, Chinese people have been experimenting with Qi Gong in the treatment of breast cancer. While the medical Qi Gong treatments have shown some effectiveness in controlling the cancer, more importantly Qi Gong does help delay the growth and the onset of cancer.

Ironically

Make your life more interesting

In many ways, making your life more interesting, is crucial to to lives of single people, especially if they wish to enjoy life and/or find a partner.

Make your life more interesting.

If your life is more interesting, people are more likely to find you more interesting. If your life is more interesting, then you are more likely to enjoy life. If you enjoy life, then people are more likely to enjoy being with you.

If you make the decision to make your life more interesting, then you will almost inevitably find that you will be looking to do more things, to attend more events, and to subject yourself to more experiences. The more things you do, the more experiences you have, then the more things you have to talk about.

The more things and experiences you have to talk about, the more you are likely to find people who share a mutual interest or experience. You may be the type of person who finds conversation difficult; we all do at times and to different degrees. However, if you have a wide range of interests and experiences, then the greater the likelihood of you being able to join in a conversation or respond to someone with lines like; 'I've done that', 'I've been there as well', 'Me too', 'You too ?'

Also, of course, if you hear someone or a group talking about talking about an interest you share, then you will be able to listen to them and join in with interest and knowledge.

Ironically, it doesn't really matter if some all your new experiences aren't all good. It still gives you something to talk about, even if you say that you didn't enjoy it. It may just happen that someone else listening to you also didn't enjoy it. Do, though, try not to be too negative.

No one is saying that simply making your life more interesting is going to solve all your problems as a single person. Quite frankly, it isn't. It can, however, be the first step toward making your life more enjoyable, and more fulfilling for yourself.

It has also to be accepted that 'interesting' means different things to different people. Try to define 'interesting' for yourself; what do you find interesting ? Is there anything you've always wanted to try but haven't ? Then go out and try new things. If you like them, do them again. If you don't like them, no loss, at least you have tried them.,
